Community Foundation Serving

Howard, Carroll and Clinton Counties

About the Client

The Community Foundation Serving Howard, Carroll, and Clinton Counties is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in these three Indiana counties. It manages charitable funds, awards grants, provides scholarships, and supports strong community leadership.

It started with Focused Listening and resulted in a regional resource that’s saving lives and restoring hope.

The Project

The Community Foundation Serving Howard, Carroll, and Clinton Counties set out to better understand their communities’ greatest concerns and aspirations in order to take informed, meaningful action. Through its Focused Listening approach, Project Matters facilitated in-depth conversations, identified and prioritized the most pressing local needs, and collaborated with partners to help secure funding for Turning Point—a unique and comprehensive recovery stabilization center in Kokomo, Indiana.

Project Matters Approach:

  • Community Listening Sessions

  • Community Action Analysis

  • Planning and Prioritization

  • Project Development

Result

Insights gathered through Focused Listening laid the groundwork for the development of Turning Point, a multimillion-dollar recovery stabilization center located in Kokomo, Indiana. Backed by a combined $6.9 million in funding including support from the Lilly Endowment and Howard County’s READI funds, Turning Point now provides life-saving, medically managed detox and trauma-informed therapy for both adults and youth across Central Indiana.

This transformational investment was made possible by the clarity, alignment, and momentum generated through the Project Matters process.

$4.9 million from the Lilly Endowment, complemented by $2 million from Howard County using READI funds—bringing the total to approximately $6.9 million

“Amy and her team at Project Matters worked vigorously with us from start to finish on this very important project, and they were instrumental in making this dream a reality for our community.  Amy is perfect.  She brings quality, experience, and integrity to every single project.”
